Aprilia Tuareg 660 in Turkey!
Aprilia, one of the world's leading Italian motorcycle icons, is preparing to bring the new member of the 660 family, Tuareg 660, to Turkey as of the end of January 2022. Combining the perfect Italian design with the family's 660 cc dual-cylinder engine, Aprilia continues to offer an excellent power/weight ratio as in the rest of the family. While Aprilia Tuareg offers tremendous performance in the use of asphalt with its class-leading electronic systems, it also brings the most challenging conditions to their knees by revealing its adventurous identity with the high and robust structure. Tuareg 660, which will be offered for sale by Doğan Trend Automotive, is counting the days to hit the roads in Turkey.
Italian motorcycle giant Aprilia completes its 660 family with a brand new Tuareg. After sports naked and supersport models, the brand introduced Tuareg 660, which is a member of the adventure class of the platform, and created Aprilia Tuareg 660 by blending attractive Italian design, advanced technological features, and high-performance engine with its adventurous identity.
A real off-road motorcycle
Following the Aprilia 660's RS and Tuono 660 models designed for street driving, the Tuareg 660 became a brand-new model that focused on real off-road driving for the same family. The name Tuareg, which has a quiet significant history, expresses a unique set of values that guarantee driving quality, performance, and fun. An excellent off-road motorcycle, the Tuareg 660 promises unparalleled driving pleasure, even on paved roads and long-distance journeys.
Those who seek freedom will find it with Tuareg
It is designed to accompany those who seek liberty, the fundamental value of the culture of the Tuareg people, who call themselves "imohag", which means "free folk'. Aprilia Tuareg's real mission is described as a gift of freedom to her user. Developed on the technical infrastructure of the Aprilia 660 dual-cylinder engine, the engine was designed to be mounted in a chassis architecture designed for a different purpose from the first sketches. The Tuareg 660 is designed, developed, and manufactured to blend the features of single-cylinder Enduro motorcycles with medium-size Adventure motorcycles. Offering advanced off-road Adventure motorcycle riding capabilities, the Tuareg 660 raises the level while delivering excellent asphalt driving capabilities with improved technical infrastructure, the performance of the 80 HP dual-cylinder engine, and 187 kg empty weight.
Excellent design in the world's favorite center
The Tuareg 660 was designed by PADC (Piaggio Advanced Design Center), the design center of the Piaggio Group in Pasadena, California, where trends were developed before spreading around the world. In this exclusive design center, designers led by Miguel Galluzi have renounced dysfunctional elements to keep size and total weight under control throughout the development process, imagining a striking and quite unique style. Design embodied in this motorcycle with the goal of a perfect balance between appearance, technology, and functionality. While details and technical elements from the Outdoor and Adventure world are blended during the design phase, Aprilia Tuareg 660 offers a structure that is ready to meet every need with its functional elements. The graphics and logo of the Indaco Tagelmust version refer to the 1988 Tuareg 600 Wind.
Innovative features and accessories
The complete plexiglass for the front opening has been chosen as an extremely unique and innovative solution. The front granulation, which is produced with a special techno-polymer material reinforced with glass fiber, increases the viewing angle with its completely transparent structure, while also serving as the support structure of the instrument panel and revealing the attention to detail in the Tuareg 660. Classic side panels are also not used under the seat. Instead, two removable panels are activated when installing the side bag set (optional as an accessory). The full led headlights include a new compact headlight unit with peripheral DRL. For the first time in this class, the Tuareg 660 exploits the double coating concept, which has already been successfully implemented in the RS 660 and Tuono 660 and serves as an aerodynamic add-on. This illustrates Aprilia's efforts to develop aerodynamic solutions that contribute to performance and comfort.
A true Aprilia with ergonomics and driving
Tuareg 660 was developed with the aim of combining the features of two different worlds: single-cylinder Enduro motorcycles and Adventure. Therefore, implementing usage ergonomics was one of the most important challenges. The parallel configuration of the Aprilia dual-cylinder engine has allowed designers to reach the ground more easily with a balanced seat height and a low leg angle, allowing riders of different lengths to reach the ground more easily.
The subframe has been lowered as much as possible to offer the high rear wheel suspension path and reasonable saddle height, which are indispensable for off-road driving. Thus, a stylish but accessible rear design has emerged. While great attention has been paid to the dimensions to achieve an extremely compact and slim motorcycle, the driver's seating ergonomics has been prioritized.
Never leaves on the road!
Tuareg 660, which has managed to make an enormous difference compared to its competitors with its fuel tank, which offers a range of up to 450 km with its 18-liter volume, does not leave its driver on the road even in difficult terrain conditions where no fuel station can be found with the range. The wide and tall conical aluminum handlebar gives the driver the same grip and feel as any Aprilia chassis architecture, providing the optimum control. As well as the driver, the passenger also enjoys a smooth and comfortable ride with a soft seat and two integrated handles. The Tuareg 660 offers a steep ride that supports off-road use. The highly compact center area resembles a single-cylinder Enduro motorcycle. The layout of the saddle and the sides gives the driver plenty of room for movement. For maximum off-road control, the rubber footrest covers can be removed, and the end of the rear brake lever lifted easily. The prominent position of the handlebar allows for a slightly tilted body position for continuous active driving and upright posture. Measures to reduce weight bring only 204 kg of empty weight as one of the best in its class. Tuareg sets new standards for off-road driving with its lightweight construction, compact dimensions, excellent balance, and wide suspension paths.
Aprilia raises the bar with chassis architecture
The Aprilia chassis has always been considered the best in the world, with sporty driving characteristics and a unique front-wheel feel. All these chassis reflect the Aprilia Racing experience, which has won a total of 54 world championships. The Tuareg 660 chassis, like its other siblings, sets the bar for both road and off-road driving. RS and Tuono are designed for more demanding conditions, and given their carrying capacity, everything is different. The subframe has been welded to the chassis to provide a robust structure that can withstand loads of up to 210 kg and meets all cargo needs when travelling with side bags and a passenger. Structural rigidity is achieved by the engine being connected to the chassis from six points instead of three in the RS 660 and two in the Tuono 660. In this way (as in RS 660 and Tuono 660) it is no longer used as a bearing element but as a tension element. Compared to street motorbikes, the fact that it is rotated backwards by about 10° makes the cylinder row steeper, gives it a more balanced structure, and increases agility in sharp turns.
Off-road suspension and tires
Long-designed to provide maximum traction, the double-arm aluminum swingarm is connected to both the frame and the engine and operates the gradually coupled shock absorber. Featuring an extremely long suspension path (240 mm), the Kayaba suspension system features hydraulic rebound, damping, and compression as well as spring preload (using the hydraulic preload lever for the shock absorber) adjustment. The setup chosen by Aprilia can easily overcome even the toughest off-road conditions, while also offering a pleasant ride on the road. The dimensions of the Tubeless aluminum wheels also clearly show the intended use of the Tuareg 660: the front rim is 2.5 x 21 inches, and the rear rim is 4.5 x 18 inches. It has Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires with sizes of 90/90 at the front and 150/70 at the rear. The Brembo brake system consists of a double 300 mm disc with a double piston caliper at the front and a 260 mm floating disc with a single piston caliper at the rear.
Performance and safety with APRC electronic package
Aprilia, one of the motorcycle manufacturers who prioritize technology, is again at the forefront by presenting the APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) electronic control system. Developed in challenging racing conditions, the system is considered the most effective and advanced solution available by customers and critics. The Aprilia Tuareg 660 is equipped with a resolute APRC electronic control system calibrated for performance and safety. This allows the model to have an electronic multimap electronic throttle lever for precise throttle control from the top down and special settings for safe and exciting driving on the road, but also a purebred and unfiltered off-road driving.
Developed specifically for the Tuareg 660, the APRC package includes the following features:
- ATC: Aprilia Traction control can be set or deactivated in four stages. It attracts attention with precise adjustment and high-performance logic and operation.
- ACC: Aprilia Cruise Control maintains the set speed without touching the throttle lever.
- AEB: Aprilia Engine Brake controls the engine brake when the throttle is released and can be adjusted in 3 levels.
- AEM: Aprilia Motor Map changes the character and power generation of 3 different levels of engines. This operation does not change the maximum power of the engine.
The Tuareg 660 accessory catalogue also includes the AQS (Aprilia Quick Shift) feature of the electronic gearbox, which enables extremely fast gear changes without losing throttle or using the clutch. It is also equipped with a downshift function to allow downshifting without clutch.
Four individual driving modes that can be customized
Equipped with a resolute APRC electronic control system calibrated for performance and safety, it also enables personalization of model driving modes.
• Urban, adjusted with a focus on daily driving safety, ABS active in both channels.
• The expedition was set up with a focus on an exciting drive on the road. ABS is active in both channels.
• Off-road is specifically tuned for off-road driving with minimal traction control and engine brake levels. The most easily manageable driving mode in terms of engine power characteristics. The ABS, which is deactivated in the rear brake, can also be deactivated in the front brake.
• Offers the possibility to completely customize personal, electronic systems. The management of electronic settings is facilitated by purely intuitive handlebar controls. On the left-hand side of the handlebar, it is possible to quickly set the traction control and cruise control (in addition to other functions), while on the right-hand side it is possible to quickly select any driving mode.
No more getting lost in the field with the multimedia platform
In addition to driving technologies, the Tuareg 660 offers the ultimate in electronic equipment and comfort. The 5-inch color digital TFT instrument panel displays numerous easily-readable driving data, while the light sensor adjusts the brightness to ambient lighting conditions. The accessory list also includes Aprilia Mia, the Aprilia multimedia platform that allows you to connect your smartphone to the motorcycle and further develops the instrument panel functions. The Aprilia Mia system offers a connection protocol that minimizes smartphone battery consumption. The system includes satellite navigation via both handlebar controls and voice assistant, with the option of displaying infotainment and directions directly on the instrument panel to manage telephone calls and music content. The Aprilia Mia app also allows the driver to record completed trips and analyze the data obtained in the app using the telemetry function.
Dual-cylinder engine with character and performance
The modern 660 dual-cylinder engine, the foundation of the new Aprilia family, is designed to be used on motorcycle models that cater for different uses. During the design phase, versatile design was also targeted along with performance and low weight. In line with this objective, a new generation of Euro 5 compliant, forward-facing double-cylinder engines, derived from the front of the 1100 cc V4, has been developed. The engine stands out for its compact dimensions and lightweight construction. Reduced horizontal and lateral engine volumes offer brilliant design freedom, both in terms of regulating basic functions such as intake and exhaust, and in terms of chassis architecture compatible with different applications. Aprilia's new twin-cylinder engine demonstrates the experience gained from the high-performance engine used in the RSV4. With the competence of this experience, this engine is based on a high-performance and tried-and-tested foundation. Cylinder head, combustion chamber, ducts, cylinders, and pistons are transferred from the V4 model. All engine components, such as the block and body, have been specifically designed and developed for the 660.
High torque from lower revolutions
Both the upper and lower parts of the engine have been specially modified for the Tuareg, with the aim of increasing torque at low rpm and ensuring correct lubrication under off-road conditions. The 4-valve, chain-driven overhead double camshafts per cylinder have been optimized to provide maximum torque at low rpm. It produces 80 HP at 9,250 rpm and maximum torque of 70 Nm at extremely low revolutions. The maximum torque available at 8,500 rpm on the RS 660 is available at 6,500 rpm on the Tuareg 660. 75% of the maximum torque is available from 3,000 rpm, while the engine only delivers 85% of its maximum torque at 4,500 rpm. The injection system includes a pair of 48 mm diameter throttle bodies with different lengths of inlet ducts to optimize distribution at high mid speeds.
It dazzles with unique colors
Aprilia was the first brand to move away from the traditional color schemes of the motorcycle world and offer innovative and technological color schemes in the early 90s. For example, while the Acid Gold version continues this tradition, Aprilia gives the Tuareg 660 a completely unique look. Already available in RS and Tuono versions, this version strengthens the innovative design of the Tuareg 660. There is also the option of Mars Red in black and red, which highlights Aprilia's athletic background. The third color scheme, Indaco Tagelmust, is an iconic color scheme and carries inspiration from the 1988 Tuareg Wind 600.
The Aprilia Tuareg 660 is also available in the same 35 kW version with all the other features for beginners.
