MG Continues to Expand its Electric Vehicle Range with the New MG4 Model!
The MG brand, which operates under the umbrella of Doğan Holding and is the distributor of Doğan Trend Automotive in Turkey, is getting ready to realize a first in the fully electric hatchback class with its new MG4 Electric model. MG4 Electric stands out as the first MG model based on the new intelligent MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) developed by MG's parent company, SAIC Motor. MG4 Electric will be offered with 51 kWh and 64 kWh battery capacities in the first place, while it will have a range of 450 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. MG4 Electric is expected to be available in our country in the first quarter of 2023.
Founded in 1924 in England, the automobile brand MG (Morris Garages) is stepping into the C-segment with MG4 Electric rising through the specially developed MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) platform. With a length of 4,287 mm, a width of 1,836 mm, and a height of 1,504 mm, the five-door MG4 was only designed fully electrically. MG4 Electric offers a comfortable and spacious cabin with enough space for a family of five while maintaining its stylish and sporty body proportions. It also enables performance driving with a balanced weight distribution of 50:50, better handling, a rear-wheel drive system and fast steering responses.
Thanks to its extremely thin battery system, MG4 Electric, which is remarkably close to the ground, has a thin battery pack developed by the SAIC Engine. MG4 Electric, which has the thinnest battery in its class with a height of just 110 mm, will be available with 51 kWh and 64 kWh battery options. These batteries offer an electric driving range of 350 km or 450 km according to the WLTP cycle.
Numerous versions are being planned for MG4 Electric, including four-wheel drive. Two different electromotors -64 kWh battery offers 150 kW, and 51 kWh battery offers 125 kW- are available. MG4 Electric completes its 0-100 km/h acceleration in less than 8 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 160 km/h.
The first MG model to hit the road in Europe with the new platform
MG4 Electric is currently undergoing 120,000 kilometers of endurance testing in Europe under various conditions. MG4 Electric stands out as the first MG model to hit the road in Europe with MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) technology specially developed for electric MG models. The intelligent and modular design system offers many advantages in terms of architecture, flexibility, use of space, safety, superior driving characteristics, weight saving, and advanced technologies. The scalable design for wheelbases ranging from 2,650 to 3,100 mm allows different body types, from hatchbacks and sedans to SUVs and VANs, to be designed on the same platform. The Modular Scalable Platform, therefore, plays a key role in MG's growth strategy around the world.
"ONE PACK" magic battery system
The innovative battery design called "ONE PACK", which is used in the MG4 model, enables just 110 mm height with horizontal battery arrangement. Thanks to this special technology, the most efficient battery volume of the automotive industry is achieved. The three most important advantages of the "ONE PACK" system with its renewed cooling system design are ultra-high integration, ultra-long life, and zero thermal leakage.
In the groundbreaking "ONE PACK" system in the electric car world, battery capacities ranging from 40 kWh to 150 kWh are theoretically easily accessible and offer flexible and diverse options to users by meeting the energy requirements of A0-D class models. The most valuable feature of this technology is that users can buy a small battery first and replace it for a longer range if they need it in the future.
With its "ONE PACK" battery design, the new MG4 Electric enables significant gains in terms of interior space, weight, and safety. Thanks to these features, MG4 Electric offers more interior space in the same external dimensions. Thanks to the engineers' ability to significantly reduce vehicle weight, significant gains are achieved in terms of efficiency and handling characteristics.
Ready for advanced technologies
Thanks to the MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) and "ONE PACK" battery systems, the development of electric car technology will gain great momentum. This technology, which will enable much faster charging times, will also enable electric motors to support BaaS (Battery as a Service) battery replacement systems in the future. With its integrated service-oriented architecture (SOA), automobiles will be able to update wirelessly (OTA) throughout their lives. The platform is also specially equipped for Pixel Point Cloud Comprehensive Environment Mapping (PP CEM), which is required for advanced autonomous driving solutions.
